  • What are the differences between the four phases of .CO registration?

    Local Sunrise: April 1-20, 2010

    Owners, licensees and/or assignees of Colombian trademarks registered on or before July 30, 2008, qualify to apply for domain names during Local Sunrise. Colombia trademark holders may also apply during Global Sunrise but will lose priority for registration. A domain name application must be an exact match to the registered trademark. Matching domain name applications will go to auction.

    Global Sunrise: April 26-June 10, 2010

    Owners, licensees and/or assignees of trademarks of national effect registered on or before July 30, 2008, qualify to apply for domain names during Global Sunrise. Colombia trademark holders may also apply during Global Sunrise. A domain name application must be an exact match to the registered trademark. Matching domain name applications will go to auction.

    Landrush: June 21-July 13, 2010

    This phase is open to anyone interested in applying to register domain names of high commercial value. Matching domain name applications will go to auction.

    General Availability: July 20, 2010

    Once the Sunrise and Landrush processes are complete, .CO domains will become available to anyone in the world through participating registrars. Except where otherwise reserved by the .CO Registry, .CO domains will be available to the public based on a first come, first served basis.

  • What is Local Sunrise?

    The Local Sunrise phase April 1-20, 2010, allows holders of Colombian trademarks registered on or before July 30, 2008, qualify to apply for domain names. A domain name application must be an exact match to the registered trademark.

  • What is Global Sunrise?

    The Global Sunrise phase April 26-June 10, 2010, allows holders of trademarks registered with national effect on or before July 30, 2008, qualify to apply for domain names. A domain name application must be an exact match to the registered trademark.

  • What is Landrush?

    The Landrush phase June 21-July 13, 2010, allows anyone to apply to register domain names of high commercial value. No trademark registration is required.

  • What is General Availability?

    Once the Sunrise and Landrush phases are complete, .CO domains will become available for registration on July 20, 2010, to anyone in the world. Except where otherwise reserved by the .CO Registry, .CO domains will be available to the public based on a first come, first served basis.

Auction Items

  • Which phases will have auctions?

    Duplicate domain applications submitted during each of the Local Sunrise, Global Sunrise, and Landrush phases will participate in auctions.

  • What determines if a .CO domain will go through the auctioning process?

    In each of the Sunrise phases, if more than one matching domain is applied for and the trademark is validated by the Validation Agents, the duplicate applications will be sent to auction.

  • When will an application go to auction?

    The Registry will submit duplicate applications for auction as soon as reasonably practical. The Registry controls the auction timing.

Billing Items

  • When will I be charged for the Local Sunrise application fee?

    The Local Sunrise application fee associated with your application will be charged at the time your Local Sunrise application is submitted to the registry. If you submit your application during pre-registration, your application will be submitted to the Registry on April 1, 2010, when it begins accepting Local Sunrise applications.

  • When will I be charged for the Global Sunrise application fee?

    The Global Sunrise application fee associated with your application will be charged at the time your Global Sunrise application is submitted to the registry. If you submit your application during pre-registration, your application will be submitted to the Registry on April 26, 2010, when it begins accepting Global Sunrise applications.

  • When will I be charged for the Landrush application fee?

    The Landrush application fee associated with your application will be charged at the time your Landrush application is submitted to the registry. If you submit your application during pre-registration, your application will be submitted to the Registry on June 21, 2010, when it begins accepting Landrush applications.

  • Is the Local Sunrise application fee refundable?

    No. The Registry charges the application fee regardless of whether the applicant is awarded the domain name, the Validation Agents deny the application, or the applicant changes his/her mind about the registration at a later date.

  • Is the Global Sunrise application fee refundable?

    No. The Registry charges the application fee regardless of whether the applicant is awarded the domain name, the Validation Agents deny the application, or the applicant changes his/her mind about the registration at a later date.

  • Is the Landrush application fee refundable?

    No. The Registry charges the application fee regardless of whether the applicant is awarded the domain name or the applicant changes his/her mind about the registration at a later date.

  • Is the General Availability registration fee refundable?

    Once the domain is registered, the registration fee is Non-refundable.

  • When will I be charged for the Local Sunrise registration fee?

    The registration fee for a domain name applied for during the Local Sunrise phase will be charged upon allocation by the Registry. The domain could be allocated as soon as April 21, 2010, but allocation could take place many weeks later if the application is submitted for auction.

Technical Questions

  • What characters are allowed in my .CO domain name?

    .CO domain names must meet the following technical requirements:

    • 1st and last character must be a letter or number
    • Letters A-Z (not case sensitive)
    • Numbers 0-9
    • Spanish IDNs are permitted
    • Cannot include two consecutive dashes (--) in the 3rd and 4th positions
    • Underlined characters not allowed
    • Dashes (-) are allowed
    • Spaces are not allowed
    • Cannot exceed 63 characters
    • Must not be on reserved list of names
    • Domain Create operation must specify the Registrant and at least one Admin, Tech, and Billing contact, with a maximum of 7 contacts
    • Domain can have term of 1-5 years
  • What is the minimum number of years for a .CO registration?

    1 year.

  • What is the maximum number of years for a .CO registration?

    5 years.
